Overview

A wider hormone, thyroid and health profile

The Comprehensive Blood Test is designed for patients who want a broader private blood profile rather than a narrow single-marker test. It includes hormone markers, thyroid function and thyroid antibodies, iron status, vitamin D, B12, folate, cholesterol, HbA1c, insulin, inflammation, liver and kidney markers in one appointment.

It may be especially relevant for patients looking for a wider view of hormone health, tiredness or low energy, thyroid markers, metabolic health or general wellbeing.

Results can help flag patterns that may support a conversation with your GP, but this is not a diagnostic test and it is not a replacement for medical advice if you have symptoms.

Thyroid and hormone markers

Hormone markers, thyroid function and antibodies

This package includes a wider thyroid panel — Free Thyroxine (FT4), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free T3, plus Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin antibodies.

It also includes a wider hormone panel: Oestradiol, Progesterone, Luteinising Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Testosterone, Free Androgen Index, Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG), Prolactin, Cortisol and DHEA Sulphate.

Hormone results can vary depending on timing, sex, age, medication and (for women who are still having periods) menstrual cycle stage. Your results can help flag patterns that may be worth discussing with your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional.

A note on cortisol timing

Cortisol naturally peaks in the morning and falls through the day. If cortisol is the main reason you are booking, a morning appointment will give the most informative reading. If cortisol is not your primary concern, you can book at any time — the other 63 markers in the package are not time-of-day dependent in the same way.

A note on menstrual cycle timing

For women still having periods, sex hormone results can change significantly across the cycle. Day 2–5 is commonly used for markers such as FSH, LH and oestradiol, while progesterone is often interpreted around the mid-luteal phase, commonly around day 21 in a 28-day cycle. If hormone timing matters for your reason for testing, please check the most appropriate timing before booking so you can choose a suitable appointment date.

Tiredness and low energy

Markers commonly checked for tiredness and low energy

Tiredness and low energy can have many possible causes. The Comprehensive Blood Test includes markers commonly looked at when exploring this, including full blood count, iron studies, thyroid function and antibodies, HbA1c, inflammation markers, and vitamin D, folate and vitamin B12.

This is not a diagnostic test, but results can help flag patterns that may be worth discussing with your GP. If you have new, persistent or concerning symptoms, please speak to your GP. For urgent non-emergency advice, use NHS 111. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999.

Yes. The package includes Free Thyroxine (FT4), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free T3, Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies and Thyroglobulin Antibody.
Does this blood test include hormone markers?

Fasting is optional but recommended for this package, because it includes a fasting Insulin marker. If you can, avoid food for around 8 hours before your appointment (water is fine, and you can keep taking any regular medication unless your doctor has said otherwise). If fasting is not practical for you, your appointment will still go ahead — your Health Adviser will note this so your insulin result can be interpreted in context.
I want a reliable cortisol result — does the time of day matter?
Yes. Cortisol naturally peaks in the morning and falls through the day, so a morning appointment is the most informative time to measure it. If cortisol is the main reason you are booking, we recommend choosing a morning slot. If cortisol is not your primary concern, you can book at any time available — the other 63 markers in the package are not time-of-day dependent in the same way.
I am still having periods — when in my cycle should I book?
For women still having periods, sex hormone results can change significantly across the cycle. Day 2–5 is commonly used for markers such as FSH, LH and oestradiol, while progesterone is often interpreted around the mid-luteal phase, commonly around day 21 in a 28-day cycle. If you are post-menopausal, taking hormonal contraception or HRT, or not sure of your cycle, just book when suits you and we will note it on the day.
How long do results take?
Within 2–5 working days. You receive a detailed report covering every marker, with clear explanations and guidance on when GP follow-up may be appropriate.
How long does the appointment take?
