Short notes on the most common comparisons.

Essential vs Advanced

The Essential Health Check is our entry-level package and a sensible baseline. The Advanced Health Check adds a wider blood panel, a 12-lead ECG and urinalysis, which gives you more detail on heart and metabolic health.

Advanced vs Optimal

Both include 12-lead ECG and urinalysis. The Optimal Health Check adds thyroid function and inflammation markers to the blood panel, which is useful if you want a broader overview of how your body is working.

When to choose a Cancer Marker Health Check

Choose a Men’s Cancer Marker Health Check or Women’s Cancer Marker Health Check if you specifically want cancer marker testing (PSA or CA125) and FIT bowel screening as part of a wider health check. These tests can help flag patterns, but they cannot diagnose or rule out cancer.

When you might want to focus on specific blood tests

If you would rather understand the role of individual tests — such as cholesterol, HbA1c or thyroid function — our private blood tests pages explain what each test covers and which packages include it.

I recently had a health screening and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. Joe immediately made me feel at ease. The entire appointment was extremely well organised and professional, yet never felt rushed. I couldn't recommend Optimum Health Screening highly enough.

When to speak to your GP instead

Private health checks are designed for adults who currently feel well and want to understand their health markers. If you have symptoms that are worrying you, please speak to your GP rather than booking a screening appointment.

In a life-threatening emergency, call 999. For urgent advice that is not an emergency, NHS 111 is available online or by phone.

Cancer Marker Health Checks include cancer-related markers and FIT bowel screening, but they cannot diagnose or rule out cancer. A raised result can help flag patterns and support a conversation with your GP.

FAQ

Choosing a health check — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Essential and Advanced Health Checks?
The Essential Health Check is our entry-level package, with a comprehensive blood panel and in-clinic clinical checks. The Advanced Health Check adds a wider blood panel, a 12-lead ECG and urinalysis, which gives you a more detailed look at heart and metabolic health.
What is the difference between the Advanced and Optimal Health Checks?
The Advanced Health Check covers a wider blood panel, 12-lead ECG and urinalysis. The Optimal Health Check is our broadest standard package — it includes everything in the Advanced check and adds thyroid function and inflammation markers to the blood panel.
Should I choose the cheapest health check or pay more?
It depends on what you want to find out. The Essential Health Check is a sensible starting point if you want a general health baseline. If you would like more detail on heart and metabolic health, the Advanced Health Check is a good step up. If you want our broadest standard overview, including thyroid function and inflammation markers, the Optimal Health Check is the most comprehensive option. If you are not sure which is right for you, please contact us.
Do Cancer Marker Health Checks diagnose or rule out cancer?
No. Our Men’s and Women’s Cancer Marker Health Checks include cancer-related markers (PSA or CA125) and FIT bowel screening alongside a wider blood panel and in-clinic checks. These tests can help flag patterns that may need further investigation, but they cannot diagnose or rule out cancer. A raised result means you should speak to your GP, who can advise on further testing. If you have symptoms that are worrying you, please speak to your GP rather than rely on a screening result.
Can I upgrade from one health check to another?
If you are unsure which package suits you, please get in touch before booking and we can talk through the options. Once you have booked, you can also contact us to switch to a different package, subject to availability and any price difference.
What if I am still not sure which health check is right for me?
Please contact us. We are happy to talk through the options on the phone or by email, so you can choose the package that best fits what you want to find out. There is no obligation to book.
