FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about booking, appointments, tests, results, pricing and our private health checks in Kingston and Crawley.

Booking & appointments

Booking, rescheduling, eligibility and availability.

Do I need a GP referral?
No. Adults aged 18–79 can book a private health check directly with us — no GP referral needed. You can book online through our booking page, by email at bookings@optimumhealthscreening.com, or by phone on 020 8058 7765.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book online through our booking page, by email at bookings@optimumhealthscreening.com, or by phone on 020 8058 7765. Online booking takes a few minutes — you choose your service, clinic and a date and time that suits you. We confirm your appointment by email.
Can I book on behalf of someone else?
Yes, but only with their knowledge and agreement. The person attending the appointment must be the named patient. We recommend they receive the booking confirmation directly so they have all the appointment details and any preparation instructions.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
You can cancel or reschedule free of charge if you give us more than 12 hours’ notice. Email bookings@optimumhealthscreening.com or call 020 8058 7765. Less than 12 hours, or not arriving, means we hold the slot for you and another patient cannot use it; we don’t charge for late cancellations or no-shows, but we keep a record and may decline future bookings from people who repeatedly miss appointments. Our full policy is in our Terms and Conditions.
What if I’m running late?
Please call us as soon as you can on 020 8058 7765 if you’re running late. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after your appointment time, we will do our best to see you, but your assessment may need to be shortened or rescheduled.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Yes. We offer evening and weekend appointments at both our Kingston upon Thames and Crawley clinics, with availability varying by week. Check the booking page for current slots.
Are there any age restrictions?
Our health checks are intended for adults aged 18 to 79. If you’re outside that range or have a complex medical condition, please contact us before booking so we can advise whether the check is suitable for you.

On the day

What to expect, where to go, what to bring.

Where are your clinics?
We have two clinics. Kingston upon Thames: Crowne Plaza, Portsmouth Road, Surbiton, KT6 5QQ. Crawley: Worth Corner Business Centre, Turners Hill Road, RH10 7SL. Both have free parking and are easily accessible by public transport. See our locations page for directions.
Which areas do your clinics serve?
Our Kingston upon Thames clinic in Surbiton serves patients from Kingston, Surbiton, South West London and north Surrey. Our Crawley clinic serves patients from Crawley, West Sussex, Mid Sussex and east Surrey. See our South West London and West Sussex location pages for more detail.
Do I need to fast before my appointment?
No. Our blood markers don’t require fasting. Eat and drink normally before you arrive. If anything else is needed for your specific package, we’ll send instructions in your booking confirmation.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your upper arm for the blood draw. For packages that include a 12-lead ECG, you’ll need to be able to remove your top — we provide a gown for privacy.
How long does the appointment take?
Thirty minutes from start to finish for all health check packages. Your Health Adviser performs the on-the-day checks, takes your blood sample, and discusses your in-clinic results within the appointment window.
Can I bring someone with me?
You’re welcome to bring someone for support. Our consulting rooms are private, and a friend or partner can usually wait nearby. Children under 18 must not be left unsupervised in the clinic.
Will I get any results on the day?
Yes. Your on-the-day clinical checks — blood pressure, body composition, lifestyle review, and (for Advanced and Optimal) ECG and urinalysis — are discussed during your appointment. Blood test results follow within 2–5 working days, in your full report.

Tests & results

Lab partner, reports, follow-up and individual tests.

Which lab do you use?
We send blood samples to a UKAS-accredited partner laboratory in the UK. UKAS accreditation means the lab meets internationally recognised standards for testing quality and competence.
When will I receive my full report?
Within 2 to 5 working days after your appointment. The exact timing depends on which tests are included and when results return from the lab. You receive your report by secure email.
What’s included in the report?
Your blood markers with reference ranges and plain-English explanations of what each one means; your on-the-day clinical results; an interpretation of your overall result and any patterns we’ve flagged; and recommendations for follow-up where appropriate, including whether to speak to your GP.
Can my GP receive a copy of my report?
We don’t share your results with anyone without your explicit consent. If you’d like a copy of your report sent to your GP, you can forward it directly, or ask us and we’ll send it on your behalf with your written permission.
What happens if my results are flagged for follow-up?
If anything in your report is flagged as needing follow-up, your report will say so clearly and recommend you speak to your GP. We can provide a summary letter for your GP if helpful. Health screening is for prevention, baseline testing and risk awareness, not diagnosis — so any clinical follow-up needs to happen with your GP, not us.
Can I get individual blood tests rather than a package?
Yes. We offer a range of individual blood tests if you’d rather check a specific marker or panel without the full package. See our blood tests page for the current list.

Cancer marker checks

Important things to know about our PSA, CA125 and FIT bowel screening checks.

Are cancer marker tests diagnostic?
No. Cancer marker tests and FIT bowel screening are not diagnostic tests. A raised result can happen for non-cancer reasons, and a normal result does not rule out cancer. If you have symptoms or ongoing concerns, speak to your GP.
What is included in the Men’s Cancer Marker Health Check?
A PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood test, a FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) bowel screening kit you complete at home, and a broader blood panel covering heart, metabolic, thyroid, vitamin D and iron-related markers. Plus the on-the-day clinical checks (blood pressure, body composition, lifestyle review). £249. Full details are on our Men’s Cancer Marker Health Check page.
What is included in the Women’s Cancer Marker Health Check?
A CA125 (Cancer Antigen 125) blood test, a FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) bowel screening kit you complete at home, and a broader blood panel covering heart, metabolic, thyroid, vitamin D and iron-related markers. Plus the on-the-day clinical checks (blood pressure, body composition, lifestyle review). £249. Full details are on our Women’s Cancer Marker Health Check page.
What should I do if I have symptoms?
Speak to your GP. A cancer marker check is not the right place to investigate active symptoms. Symptoms such as unexplained bleeding, persistent changes in bowel habits, unintentional weight loss, lumps or persistent pain need to be assessed by a GP, who can refer you for the right diagnostic tests if needed. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999.

Pricing & payment

How much, when to pay, and how to pay.

How much do your health checks cost?
Essential Health Check: £125. Advanced Health Check: £155. Optimal Health Check: £189. Men’s and Women’s Cancer Marker Health Checks: £249 each. Individual blood tests are priced separately. All prices include VAT where applicable.
When do I pay?
No payment is taken at booking. Payment is taken in the clinic at the end of your appointment. If you’ve asked us to invoice your employer or another organisation, payment terms are 14 days from the invoice date unless we agree otherwise in writing.
What payment methods do you accept?
Card (via SumUp) or cash. We don’t accept cheques.
Do you offer refunds?
Once an appointment has been completed, the fee for that appointment is normally non-refundable, since the service has been delivered and the lab work has been used. Your statutory rights are not affected — if you believe a service has fallen short of reasonable care and skill, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. Full details are in our Terms and Conditions.
Can I claim through my employer or insurance?
Many of our patients claim back through workplace health benefits or corporate health plans. We provide a detailed invoice on request. Whether private medical insurance covers preventive screening varies by policy; check with your insurer.
Do you offer corporate health checks?
Yes. We work with employers across Surrey, London and Sussex on workplace health screening. We can run on-site clinics, in-clinic group bookings, or vouchers your team can redeem at our Kingston or Crawley clinics. Visit our corporate health checks page or contact us for a quote.

About Optimum Health Screening

Who we are, who reviews your results.

Who reviews my results?
Your Health Adviser has a sport science background, an MSc in Sport Psychology, and is Bupa-trained in health assessment. Blood results are reviewed against lab reference ranges, with clear explanations and GP follow-up recommended where appropriate.
Are you a doctor or GP service?
No. Optimum Health Screening is a private preventive health screening service. We do not provide clinical diagnosis or treatment, prescribe medication, or replace your GP. Where appropriate, we recommend follow-up with your GP — that’s where any clinical care happens.
Is this a substitute for seeing my GP?
No. Health screening is for prevention, baseline testing and risk awareness, not diagnosis. If you have active health concerns, see your GP. We always recommend you do so if your results suggest medical follow-up. In a life-threatening emergency, call 999. For urgent advice that is not life-threatening, contact NHS 111.
What if I have a complaint?
We’re sorry if anything has fallen short. The quickest way to raise a concern is to email enquiries@optimumhealthscreening.com with a description of what went wrong. We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 working days and aim to resolve it within 20 working days. Full details are in our Terms and Conditions.

Privacy & data

How your health data is stored, shared and protected.

How is my health data stored?
Your data is stored securely using trusted cloud systems, with appropriate safeguards for personal and health information. Optimum Health Screening Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a data controller (registration ZB158528). Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Who can see my results?
You and your Health Adviser, plus the staff at our partner laboratory who process the blood samples — they receive the sample and the information needed to process and report the requested tests, such as identifiers, date of birth, sex, requested tests and sample/reference numbers. We don’t share your results with anyone else — including your GP — without your explicit consent.
How long do you keep my records?
We retain health records in line with UK guidance for private medical records, typically for several years after your last appointment with us. Specific retention periods are explained in our Privacy Policy. After that, records are securely destroyed.
How do I request a copy of my data?
You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (a Subject Access Request). Email privacy@optimumhealthscreening.com and we will respond within 30 days. There is no fee for a standard request. You also have rights to correct inaccurate data, delete data in some circumstances, and complain to the ICO. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
