Surbiton, KT6 5QQ
Private blood tests in Kingston upon Thames
Cholesterol, HbA1c, liver, kidney, thyroid, iron and vitamin markers, taken at our Surbiton clinic and analysed by UKAS-accredited laboratories. No GP referral needed, and results are usually ready in 2–5 working days.
Blood tests available at our Kingston clinic
Every marker below is taken from a single blood draw at the Surbiton clinic. Which markers you get depends on the package you choose — the panels are grouped here by what they measure rather than by price, so you can work backwards from what you actually want to know.
Cholesterol and heart health
Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and the cholesterol ratios read alongside them.
These markers describe how fat is carried and cleared in your blood. Read together rather than one at a time, they are the standard starting point for cardiovascular risk.
Included in: Every package
HbA1c and blood sugar
HbA1c, which reflects average blood sugar across roughly the previous two to three months.
A single glucose reading only describes that morning. HbA1c smooths that out, which is why it is used to assess longer-term patterns rather than a one-off result.
Included in: Every package
Liver function
ALT, AST, Gamma GT, bilirubin, albumin and total protein.
Liver enzymes move for many ordinary reasons — alcohol, medication, recent illness, body weight. A raised enzyme on its own is a prompt to look further, not a conclusion.
Included in: Every package
Kidney function
Creatinine, eGFR, urea, sodium and potassium.
eGFR estimates how efficiently the kidneys are filtering. It shifts with hydration and muscle mass as well as kidney health, so context matters when reading it.
Included in: Every package
Full blood count
Red cells and haemoglobin, white cells, and platelets.
The broadest single blood test there is. It is often the test that explains tiredness, recurrent infections or unexplained bruising when nothing else has.
Included in: Advanced, Optimal, Comprehensive and the Cancer Marker Health Checks
Thyroid function
TSH and Free T4, with Free T3 and thyroid antibodies in the Comprehensive Health Check.
Thyroid symptoms — fatigue, weight change, feeling cold, low mood — overlap with a great many other things, which is why measuring is more useful than guessing.
Included in: Optimal and Comprehensive
Iron studies and ferritin
Serum iron, ferritin, transferrin and transferrin saturation.
Ferritin reflects stored iron rather than circulating iron, so it can fall well before a full blood count looks abnormal. Useful when tiredness is the main complaint.
Included in: Every package
Inflammation (HS-CRP)
High-sensitivity C-reactive protein.
HS-CRP picks up the low-grade inflammation that standard CRP misses. It is non-specific by design — it tells you something is happening, not what.
Included in: Optimal and Comprehensive
Vitamins and hormones
Vitamin D, B12, folate, and sex hormones in the Comprehensive Health Check.
Vitamin D deficiency is common in the UK through winter regardless of diet, and B12 and folate sit behind a lot of unexplained fatigue.
Included in: Comprehensive
Looking for one specific test rather than a panel? Our blood test guides explain each marker in more depth, including what high and low results can indicate.
What a blood test appointment involves
Around 45 minutes, start to finish. The blood draw itself takes a few minutes — most of the appointment is everything around it.
- Your history first. A Bupa-trained Health Adviser talks through your background, symptoms and reasons for testing before anything is taken. This is what turns a list of numbers into a report that means something for you specifically.
- The sample. Taken by the same Health Adviser, who is also a trained phlebotomist — you are not handed between people. Usually one draw covers every marker in your package.
- Your in-clinic checks. Blood pressure, body composition, and — on the Advanced Health Check and above — a 12-lead ECG. These are measured while you are there, so you leave knowing them.
- Arriving at the Crowne Plaza. Park on site and come into the main hotel reception on Portsmouth Road. The clinic room is signposted from there, and it is step-free with lifts to all floors. Arrive five minutes early if you can.
Appointments are booked in advance — the calendar shows every available time. Need a time that isn’t listed? Call us and we can often arrange an appointment within 24 hours, subject to diary availability.

Usually 2–5 working days after your appointment. Samples go to UKAS-accredited laboratories, which is the same accreditation standard NHS laboratories work to.
You get a written report rather than a bare printout. It sets out each figure, the reference range it sits against, and a plain-English explanation of what that marker measures and what your result suggests. Where several markers are worth reading together — iron studies alongside a full blood count, say — the report says so rather than leaving you to connect them.
A result outside the reference range is not automatically a problem, and a result inside it is not automatically a clean bill of health. Reference ranges describe a population, not you. Where something warrants following up, the report says plainly that it does and recommends you take it to your GP, who can access your full history and arrange onward care. We are a private screening service working alongside NHS care, not a replacement for it.
Cancer markers are worth a specific note. PSA, CA125 and FIT can flag patterns but cannot diagnose or rule out cancer. They are a prompt to investigate further, and the report is explicit about that rather than letting a number carry more weight than it can bear.
Do I need to fast?
For most of our blood tests, no. Eat and drink normally and come as you are.
No fasting required
Essential, Advanced and Optimal Health Checks, and both the Men’s and Women’s Cancer Marker Health Checks. Eat normally beforehand — a fasted patient who has travelled across Surrey on an empty stomach is more likely to feel faint during the draw than to get a better result.
Fasting optional but recommended
The Comprehensive Health Check, because it includes a fasting insulin marker that reads more cleanly on an empty stomach. Around 8 hours without food if you can manage it. Water is fine throughout, and keep taking any prescribed medication as normal unless your doctor has told you otherwise.
Morning appointments are the easier option if you are fasting, for obvious reasons. They go first in the Surbiton diary, so book a little further ahead if that matters to you.
Getting to our Kingston clinic
Crowne Plaza London Kingston, Portsmouth Road, Surbiton, KT6 5QQ.
Worth knowing before you set off: the address is Surbiton rather than Kingston town centre, and it sits on Portsmouth Road by the river. Patients searching for a clinic in Kingston sometimes head for the town centre first, so it is worth putting KT6 5QQ into your sat nav rather than navigating by the name.
Parking
Free on-site parking at the hotel. For most patients driving in from Surrey this is the reason they choose Surbiton over a central Kingston alternative.
By train
Surbiton station is about a 15-minute walk, with fast services from London Waterloo. Kingston station is a little further out and usually means a bus or a short taxi.
Access
Step-free throughout, with lifts to all floors. The Crowne Plaza is a modern hotel built to current accessibility standards.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I get a blood test in Kingston upon Thames without a GP referral?
- Yes. No referral is needed for any of our blood testing. You book the appointment yourself and attend our Surbiton clinic at the Crowne Plaza on Portsmouth Road. We are a private service, so we work alongside NHS care rather than replacing it — if a result needs following up, we will say so in your report and recommend you speak to your GP.
- Where exactly is the Kingston clinic?
- Crowne Plaza London Kingston, Portsmouth Road, Surbiton, KT6 5QQ. It is a Surbiton address rather than Kingston town centre, about a 15-minute walk from Surbiton station, with free parking on site. There is step-free access throughout and lifts to all floors.
- How long does a blood test appointment take?
- A health check appointment takes around 45 minutes. The blood draw itself is only a few minutes of that — the rest is your in-clinic checks and talking through your history with a Bupa-trained Health Adviser. If you need a blood draw on its own rather than a full health check, call us and we will arrange a shorter appointment.
- How quickly will I get my blood test results?
- Results are usually ready in 2–5 working days. You receive a written report with your figures, the reference ranges they sit against, and a plain-English explanation of what each one means. Samples are analysed by UKAS-accredited laboratories.
- Do I need to fast before a blood test at your Surbiton clinic?
- Not for the Essential, Advanced or Optimal Health Checks, or for either Cancer Marker Health Check — eat and drink normally. Fasting is optional but recommended for the Comprehensive Health Check, because it includes a fasting insulin marker. If you can, avoid food for around 8 hours beforehand; water is fine.
- Can I book a single blood test rather than a full panel?
- Single tests start from £99, with specialist tests priced higher. They are arranged by phone rather than through the online calendar, so please get in touch and we will advise. Most patients find a health check package better value, since the broader panel and the in-clinic checks cost little more than one or two individual tests.
- Which areas do patients travel from for blood tests?
- Patients regularly travel to the Surbiton clinic from Kingston upon Thames, New Malden, Thames Ditton, Esher, Teddington, Twickenham, Hampton and Walton-on-Thames. Free on-site parking tends to be the deciding factor for anyone driving.
- Is there an age limit for blood testing?
- Our health checks are for adults aged 18–79. If you are outside that range and would like testing, please contact us and we will tell you honestly whether we can help or whether your GP is the better route.
