What it checks
What does a Vitamin D blood test check?
A Vitamin D blood test measures Vitamin D 25(OH) — the standard marker used to assess your overall Vitamin D status. It reflects Vitamin D from both diet and sun exposure, giving a single, clinically useful figure.
Vitamin D 25(OH) is currently included in our Men’s and Women’s Cancer Marker Health Checks. It is not currently included in our Essential, Advanced or Optimal Health Checks.

What results may indicate
Understanding Vitamin D results
Vitamin D results sit on a spectrum from low to optimal to high. Levels often vary by season, with lower readings common in UK winters.
What Vitamin D 25(OH) measures
Vitamin D 25(OH) — also called 25-hydroxyvitamin D — is the main circulating form of Vitamin D in the blood. It is the standard marker used to assess overall Vitamin D status.
Why Vitamin D matters
Vitamin D supports bone health, calcium absorption, immune function and muscle function. Low Vitamin D is common in the UK, particularly in winter months and in people with limited sun exposure or darker skin tones.
What low results may indicate
Low Vitamin D can flag patterns linked to limited sun exposure, certain dietary patterns, malabsorption issues, or other underlying factors. Low levels are often improved with dietary changes, sun exposure or supplementation as advised by a GP.
What high results may indicate
Very high Vitamin D levels are uncommon and are usually linked to excessive supplementation rather than diet or sun exposure. If your result is high, your report will explain it in context and may recommend speaking to your GP.
Vitamin D testing is for screening and risk awareness, not diagnosis. If results suggest medical follow-up — or if you have current symptoms — please speak to your GP, who can advise on supplementation, repeat testing or further investigation.
